Advanced Style at Gene Siskel

An intimate group of people gathered at the Gene Siskel Film Center to support Ari Seth Cohen’s Advanced Style documentary. The showing was followed by a Skype conversation with the blogger himself, making for an interesting discussion with the viewers and Barbara Glass as moderator. Advanced Style, which documents fashionable women 50 and over, drew in its own stylish crowd to represent the city of Chicago.

John Galliano for Martin Margiela

John Galliano

It’s been three years since John Galliano disappeared from the fashion radar, after controversial behavior which lead to his termination from Dior and penalties from the French police. It is admirable though, to see how the designer apologized to the public, stating that he wanted to fix things in small steps so as to undo as much damage as possible. Looking for a second chance, the time has come, as he’s been appointed Creative Director of Maison Martin Margiela. His collection will be presented in January.

Model Spotlight: Rianne ten Haken

Not just anyone can say that they started their career by walking a Marc Jacobs fashion show, and at the age of 16 to top it off. However, Rianne ten Haken has been there, done that. Now in her late twenties, a revival of Haken has been seen with periodicals, music videos, and runway shows. Her ability to transform is absolutely mesmerizing, and we can’t wait to see more of her in the near future!

Jean Paul Gaultier’s Last RTW Collection

Jean Paul Gaultier

The world of fashion bid adieu to John Paul Gaultier, as he sent off his last Ready-to-Wear collection down the runway. Thankfully, the designer is doing this to focus on haute couture and fragrance collections, to which he explained he had a certain fondness for their ability to let him be more expressive and experimental. The tight deadlines of commercial RTW constrained such creativity. A jubilant Gaultier said waved goodbye at the end of the show, and thus we cannot help but feel happy for his decision.

Joan Lunden on People Magazine

Joan Lunden People Magazine

For the October issue of People magazine, Good Morning America host Joan Lunden graced the covers with a contagious smile. Her charming expression speaks of her courage, having been diagnosed with breast cancer. The detail of making the cover without her hair has gained her even more praise, as she explains to audiences that the decision to cut all her hair before it fell out was her own. We wish her the best in her recovery!

Runway to Real way! A Guide to Fall 2014!

I’m so excited to write in honor of FALL! My favorite season…the time when sweaters and boots make it from the runway to real way!

Here I am going to give you the best and the top 5!

1. Faux Fur for Days.-Fur is always on-trend for winter and fall, but the runways proved that this season it’s a must-have texture. Hey, if it’s good enough for Fendi and Tom Ford, it’s good enough for us.

Faux Fox Fur Long Stole, $56

2. Knit
Who doesn’t love to bundle up in a knitted sweater when fall weather hits? Make like Stella McCartney and grab a speckled sweater like the Free People shown below.

Free People Dylan Tweedy Turtleneck Pullover, $128

3. Hardshell Clutches.
Out with chain strap and oversized clutches and in with the hardshell variety! Hard, box clutches are all the rage for evening looks. Take a hint from Louis Vuitton and go for a small, square purse.

4. Stylish Sneakers.
Chanel, Edun and DKNY were all designers who showed comfortable footwear as an on-trend look for fall (good news for those of us whose feet might need a break from sky-high stilettos). Channel the look in your favorite pair of lace-ups or slip-ons.

Vans Classic Slip-On Sneaker, $46.95

5. Fancy Loafers.
Smoking slippers have always been a style staple in my own closet, and lately designers like Dolce & Gabbana have been giving them an edgy upgrade. Opt for a black pair with a tassel detail, and wear them with leather leggings, a blouse and a long cardigan on colder days.

These are my top 5 to look AMAZING this fall! Just to add to your favorite pumpkin drink and or the amazing caramel apples!
