In honour of Ruth Adler, the supercentenarian who just celebrated her 110th birthday this Sunday, I wanted to make a recap of this three great women who have been around for more than we can remember and are still, coming back for more this 2015.
Saint Laurent’s newest campaign will again shine a light on a musician, as it has been doing with the Saint Laurent Music Project, now picking the amazingly talented Joni Mitchell. One of the most inspiring women of the 70′s, who is still writing and playing, does a great match with the brand bohemian and rocker aesthetic. The campaign features Mitchell in three pictures wearing a Saint Laurent “folk tunic,” a wide brimmed hat (very reminiscent of Woodstock- the great festival to which she actually did not attend, but still seems to represent), and a guitar.
On the other hand, Joan Didion, great American writer, age 80, has now been pictured as the new model for Céline. In the campaign, under big black shades, a statement pendant and black sweater, Didion shows no more of her life than she always has, keeping herself under shade but with great pride and a beautiful mind. Let us live by her advise: “I’m not telling you to make the world better (…) I’m just telling you to live in it. Not just to endure it, not just to suffer it, not just to pass through it, but to live in it. To look at it. To try to get the picture. To live recklessly. To take chances. To make your own work and take pride in it. To seize the moment. And if you ask me why you should bother to do that, I could tell you that the grave’s a fine and private place, but none I think do there embrace.”
Lets hope to be half as great at half their age.
