Many girls have asked me how I manage to master my closet with many wardrobe pieces and still keep it together and simple, here is my list of the key pieces every girl should have and how to wear them!
Little black dress
When I am completely in a loss for what to wear, this is one of my favorite go-tos, particularly if I need to look a little extra polished. You can wear it with tights, belted, layered with a cardigan or blazer, flats or booties, stilettos, depending if you want to dress it up or dress it down.
Jeans and Leggings
Denim is a necessary in any wardrobe and regardless of your body type with all the styles out there, you’re sure to find a pair that will work for you! A dark wash (like shown above with beautiful Lauren Conrad) is the most versatile; black and deep blues are super flattering and they look fancier too.
Leggings should be one fashion piece every girl should have but only if you know how to style it, leggings work better when you have over-sized sweaters and or long shirts in your closet. They can be paired with heels or with boots in summer or winter, remember girls the rule here is, BIG or LONG.
Collard Button-Down & Black and White tops
This piece is a classic, I think a collard white shirt looks great on everyone, either with a pencil skirt (like shown above) or crisp tailored styles paired with indigo jeans and high heels or rucked into A-line skirts.
Many outfits I wear include some versions of a black or white shirt. Either cotton, jersey, silk, or chiffon; it’s the perfect example of what a key piece represents. I’ve worn white or black tops tucked into pencils skirts, draped over cutoffs, bloused over a full, printed skirt or with simple jeans, they never fail me!
A great skirt doesn’t generally make a lot of people’s must have-lists, but I think it’s an essential, when you need to look a little bit fancy, a skirt is perfect. You can wear with flats and a T-shirt for casual look, or paired with a blouse and heels for an evening out.
Boots & Black Heels
Whether they are embellished motorcycle style, flat riding boots or platform knee-high, boots definitely come in handy particularly for in-between and colder seasons.
I own a pair of sky-high black heels that look fabulous but by the end of the day I’m walking like I have a broken toe. Eventually I managed to find some that are way more comfortable, they have a five-inch heel but complete with a hidden platform so they feel less intense. I love them so much!
Blazer and Coat
A well-cut jacket is a great layering piece, plus it can pull any outfit together and make it look more polished.
Everyone looks great in a coat. You can throw one on and walk down the street looking stylish, and while a coat’s main purpose is to keep you warm, you can score one that’s fashionable and functional. Go for a bold color or one with embellishments.
