Teen Petitions to Stop Airbrushing
Seventeen Magazine her the message loud and clear when 14-year-old Julia Bluhm started a petition this April to get Seventeen Magazine to stop airbrushing their models. With over 84,000 signatures on the petition it is a subject that is hard to dismiss. The editors have agreed to be more airbrush ”friendly” and have started the “Body Peace Treaty”. Seventeen’s EIF, Ann Shoket, stated that the staff drafted the treaty that will be displayed in the August issue of Seventeen. They have pledged to “celebrate every kind of beauty with a range of body types, skin tones, and hair textures.” I still can’t believe that it is such a big issue, ALL magazines should feature beauties of ALL types, welcome to the 21st century people!
