As I mentioned in my previous post, I was going to be traveling to the east coast to one of the nation’s top universities for a debate tournament, and that university was Harvard! The speech and debate tournament at Harvard over President’s Day weekend is the biggest and hardest tournament in the country. So many great things happen at Harvard, the education of tomorrow’s leaders, and even the creation of Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg. My partner and I usually do well at our local tournaments, so we expected to go to Harvard and not do well at all. The competition is tougher, and a lot of the schools had more developed debate programs. We were, essentially, going for the experience. When we went to Harvard, we did a lot of exploring! We both loved the campus! Then our debate rounds started and we ended up advancing from the rounds with 90 teams to the rounds with 32, which is where we lost. We were so surprised we advanced at all. We went and tried our hardest to do the best we could and all of our hard work paid off. We already set our goal for next year; to win the Harvard tournament! After this experience, we think that anything is possible if we put our minds to it.
